Samsung P2 Portable Media Player Gets CinemaNow, Rhapsody And Napster Content

Samsung’s new P2 portable media player just got better, adding the possibility to download entertainment content from CinemaNow, Rhapsody, and Napster, including thousands of feature length films, television shows and music videos. The subscription-based services offer à la carte purchases of digital content for the innovative Samsung P2 player, with Samsung’s new MPfreedom website serving as the hub for everything P2. Samsung has also announced a program called Blue Wave that will let P2 users update their player with the latest in-demand features through firmware upgrades. The first P2 update will be available in December 2007 and will allow pairing with Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones, playback of AAC audio format files and file transfer between Bluetooth devices.

For the time being WMA and MP3 music formats are supported, while the 3-inch16:9 display supports WMV and MPEG-4 video at 30fps. The player has an FM radio as well. The Samsung P2 is the first Samsung portable media player to feature a full touch screen GUI, using EmoTure, an input system that allows the finger to control player functions by tapping selections or by sliding a finger across the screen.

P2 owners can also customize the player with accessories from Belkin, iLuv and DLO. Samsung P2 is available in black, white or red in the following capacities: 2GB, 4GB ($199) and 8GB ($249) capacities. The P2’s battery-life provides 35 hours of music playback or 5 hours of video.
