Shuttle has launched its first AMD-based HD-compatible Mini-PC. What’s so neat about the aluminium-encased Shuttle XPC G5 6801M is that it can play high-resolution films from both Blu-ray and HD DVD (remember that?) media.

A single HDMI cable transfers top quality image and sound to modern flat-screen televisions for playback, thereby avoiding any expensive installation costs.

The built-in LG GGC-H20L combo drive is suitable for both HD formats and AMD’s Athlon 64 X2 6000+ processor and in conjunction with 2GB of DDR2 800MHz memory should deliver the required performance for fluid playback. Games will plod along thanks to the mid-range ATI HD3450 and its 256MB of discrete memory.

The Shuttle XPC G5 6801M (200×310x185mm) also offers TV-reception with expanded options. Whether it is conveniently managing recordings with the remote control or using the Time-Shifting function to ensure you never miss a second of the ongoing program, you’ll have a blast. You can use the LG GGC-H20L combo drive to burn TV recordings, digital photos or music saved on the Shuttle XPC G5 6801M onto DVD.

The Windows Vista Home Premium-based system is rounded off with 802.11a/b/g, 8-channel audio, Gigabit LAN, 25-in-1 memory card reader, FireWire, six USB 2.0 Ports, and two eSATA ports.

The Shuttle XPC G5 6801M is available immediately for £988 and is backed by a 2-year Pick-up-and-Return-Service and a Europe-wide free telephone hotline.
